After our early morning flight from LA, our first night in NY called for some serious comfort food to combat the five hour journey, numerous airport delays and the chilly NY weather – 2 degrees Celsius!

My husband and I strolled through Soho and found ourselves in Little Italy surrounded by a multitude of cosy cafes twinkling with Christmas lights and crowded with patrons. The smart navy blue awning of Angelo’s caught my eye and as we pushed open the glass fronted wooded doors, we were greeted with a jovial, celebratory crowd. A busy restaurant is usually a good sign of great food to come and Angelo’s lived up to our expectations.

This restaurant had first opened in 1902!!!!  –  and was still a popular place for locals. We ordered a selection of authentic Italian dishes with the stand outs being a light chicken soup with wilted spinach that I have to say came a very close second to my mother-in-law’s chicken noodle soup. Restorative soup at its best. I also enjoyed their house special of house made parppadelle pasta with wild mushrooms, basil leaves, a touch of cream and fresh tomatoes. This was the perfect antidote to a day of travel and a satisfying way to break my five weeks without wheat pasta.
