When my tastebuds start to twitch in anticipation of eating something chocolatey I whip up either a fluffy, cocoa laden chocolate sour cream cake with golden syrup icing or a batch of beloved brownies.

This afternoon I chose to indulge in the latter, because my children’s Godmother Linda was visiting and this happens to be her all time favourite chocolate treat, followed closely by Easter eggs and Nutella. The recipe can be found on my post dated 24th May 2013. Just type the word “brownie” into the SEARCH box.

I must admit that I felt a surge of home cooking satisfaction when I stepped back from the bench and saw the chocolate brownies, each square neatly sliced and waiting to be served up to an appreciative audience. The remaining morsels were snuggled together in an airtight container and stored in the fridge, to be enjoyed throughout the week.

In preparation for school lunch boxes, I also baked a large batch of apple honey crumble muffins. High in fibre with fresh apples and rolled oats, these muffins also make a quick, satisfying breakfast on the run, especially when paired with a banana and a tub of yoghurt or milk. Once again, using the SEARCH function, type in “apple honey crumble” and the recipe posted on the 7th October will pop up. I omitted the white chocolate chips this time, because I wanted to reduce the sugar content in this batch.
