After a week of temperamental weather, the dark clouds cleared and we were treated to spectacular sunny weather with just a hint of a sea breeze. A perfect backdrop for our baby Maksim’s Christening day.
The devoted Godparents did a marvellous job of keeping our littlest one calm and content during the serene and beautiful church service. I’m going to refer to Maksim’s Godfather as the “baby whisperer”.
This was followed by a sumptuous lunch with family and close friends at Deckhouse restaurant in Woolwich. The sublime food, attentive service and spectacular surroundings, helped to make our celebration enjoyable and memorable.
Take a look at Maksim’s gorgeous Christening cake. This creation is courtesy of the very talented Denin from Spoon and Fork, who replicated the Christening invitation into an edible work of art. Not only does it look impressive, but it was DELICIOUS! Moist, chocolate cake layered with vanilla buttercream and covered in a delicate layer of fondant. An ideal way to round off a banquet of freshly prepared seafood, an abundant selection of antipasto, delicate veal ravioli, tender beef fillet, creamy risotto and fresh Greek salad. Yum!
Although I am a dedicated home cook and I do enjoy entertaining at home, when it comes to hosting a significant event with more than 20 guests, I am all for calling in the professionals. Spending time with my husband and six children enjoying the day, catching up with extended family members and friends is far more important than stuffing mushrooms, dicing veggies, marinating meat and cleaning up.
Now that my brood are all tucked up in bed, it’s time to enjoy a steaming cup of tea…before I start on tomorrow’s school lunches.
