My Super Tasty Bolognese solved the mid-week dinner dilemma this evening all in one large pot. You can find my recipe for this nutritious and appealing meal on the post published on the 13th May.

With the help of my reliable Magimix food processor, I had the vegetables chopped in less than a minute, then tumbled them out into the pot to sauté while the oven warmed up. Yes, that’s right the oven. You must understand that I am far too busy to stand stove-side, stirring sauce for two hours. So I let my electric Ilve stove take care of this time consuming task. Once the vegetables, have sautéed to a glossy golden hue, the mince has browned and all the other yummy ingredients like herbs, chicken stock and passata are added, the entire pot with lid clamped on goes into the oven. Then I walk off and work my way through the day’s to do list.

The secret to the rich, incredibly mouth watering flavour is the abundance of vegetables and the use of good quality, freshly minced beef. A sauce made with only meat and tomatoes just doesn’t have the depth of flavour, or all round goodness. This dish is also a sneaky way of slipping lots of vitamin rich veggies into little ones and helping children’s tastebuds to become accustomed without a display of theatrics at the dinner table.

My children are SO enthusiastic about this dish. They cheer. I’m not exaggerating, they audibly cheer. I feel like doing this when about to eat some of my favourite meals like duck confit, pomegranate molasses chicken, tiny Chinese dumplings, cheese pita with home made yoghurt or silky soft hand made gnocchi. Perhaps I should give it a go and wait for the kids’ reactions!
